Hobby Farming can not only be fun but profitable!
They are well balanced, correct in structure, have plenty
of length, good depth of rib, good muscle and heavy bone.
Their
offspring have proven themselves to be hardy in our economy; they have
the ability to travel well, forage, grow and gain well,
both on the high
desert mountain range and on the farm, making them a nice addition to
any herd.

Avoid Costly Mistakes on RAISING TURKEYS
Get it right the first time!
As Animal Control Officer I sometimes get the more unusual pet. On one
occasion I had to trap two domestic turkeys. I certainly could not put
them in the shelter with the dogs and cats so I took them home with me
on to our 5 acre hobby farm. No one claimed them and my husband and I
became quite attached to the turkeys. Watching them meander around the
property had a relaxing effect on us. We decided it might be fun to
raise some turkeys. I ordered the "How To Raise Turkeys" on this page
and we preceded to try our luck. The information was very helpful and
we are now proud parents to 31 baby turkeys. We have all ages and when
we let them out of the pen they follow us all over the property like a
faithful dog would, some hopping and trying their wings out and others
just trying to keep up with the flock. Some want to be held and some
roost on your knee. The bigger they are the more inquisitive and if you
are not careful they will try to eat your hair or peck at your glasses
or taste your clothing. The three that were first born, two toms and
one hen are the largest and the two toms stay close but are more
independent. The hen still wants to be petted and we named her Little
Girl. We have only named one other that is "Butt Head", he was always
picking on all the other baby turkeys and wanted to be held all the
time and he would go to sleep in my husband's hand. Needless to say he
is our favorite. I had to stop myself from putting the turkey eggs into
the incubator so we wouldn't end up with a hundred turkeys but it was
very hard to put them into the fridge. We enjoy them tremendously and
we can now say we are full fledged Turkey Farmers.
